Mr. Sassano joined the firm in 2013 when it was known as Herring & Trowbridge Architects. He became the owner in 2016 upon the retirement of David Herring. As Principal, Mr. Sassano is responsible for oversight on all phases of a project, from inception to completion. He brings 35 years of experience, with projects ranging from the very small to the very large and complex. Specifically, Mr. Sassano focuses on the coordination and integration of architectural elements with all other building elements. This ensures that creative problem solving is applied throughout all aspects of the design phase, including architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing elements. Mr. Sassano also ensures that project architects and engineering consultants are well informed about what each is responsible for and about the overall design goals of the project.
Prior to joining AXO, Mr. Sassano worked in South Bend Indiana. In addition to practicing architecture, he taught at the University of Notre Dame and Andrew’s University, served on the Board of Zoning Appeals and the Historic Preservation Commission of St. Joseph County, IN, and spent several years as a volunteer high-school football coach.
After graduating from the University of Notre Dame, Mr. Sassano moved to New York City, where he practiced for 9 years. During this time, he worked on several award-winning projects including Stuyvesant High School and Hostos Community College.
Mr. Sassano is a Registered Architect and member off the American Institute of Architects. He is also a member of the International Data Center Association Technical Committee.
